Free online ESL textbooks

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

I just found this really useful website with lots of free books for learning English. Click here for a link to their TOEFL resources but take the time to look at some of the other books on their site as well. If you are not used to downloading large files from the Internet you might find it a little difficult to get the files at first. I recommend that you read the rest of this post and persevere (keep trying). There is a wide range of resources here and you can save some serious money if you learn how to use these kinds of websites. If you are having difficulties downloading you can ask for my help in the comments.

Do I have to pay?

No, the websites offer a premium account which costs money, but you can download the files for free if you are prepared to wait for 30 - 60 seconds.

How do I download a file?

1) Click on the link of the file that you want and you will be taken to another web page.

2) Click on the ‘free user’ button

3) You will see a countdown timer that says “Still 30 seconds”

4) After 30 - 60 seconds you will see a button that says “download”

5) Click on the download button and save the file to your computer

My computer doesn’t know how to open the file, what should I do?

1) You need a special program to open the file. There are lots of programs that you can use to do this. Click here for a copy of the one that I use.

2) Download and install the new program

3) When the new program is installed locate the file that you couldn’t open and right click on it. You will be given and option to ‘extract the files’. Select this option.

4) Wait for the files to extract and enjoy your new book or CD!

*Warning - copyright laws are different in every country. It is your responsibility to check that it is legal for you to download these files.
